Mode of Action

TETEMESHA MAGUGU® 500SC is a selective herbicide combining two complementary active ingredients with dual modes of action:

  1. Metolachlor acts primarily through root and shoot uptake by germinating weeds. It inhibits protein synthesis and cell division in susceptible plants, stopping weed emergence and growth early in the development cycle.

  2. Atrazine is absorbed by roots and leaves and works by inhibiting photosynthesis. It blocks the electron transport chain in photosystem II, leading to the disruption of energy production in susceptible weeds. This causes chlorosis (yellowing), followed by necrosis (tissue death) and eventual plant death.

This combination provides effective pre- and early-post emergence control by targeting weeds as they germinate and in their early seedling stages.

Application Guide

  1. Timing: Apply as a pre-emergence treatment immediately after planting/sowing the maize crop but before weed emergence. For early-post emergence control, apply when weeds are at the very early seedling stage (1-2 leaves).

  2. Preparation: Ensure the spray mixture is well-agitated during preparation and application. Use clean water for mixing.

  3. Application Rate: Use the recommended dosage as specified on the product label for your specific soil type and weed pressure. Apply uniformly using a knapsack or boom sprayer with a flat fan nozzle for even coverage.

  4. Method: Spray evenly over the soil surface or directly over emerging weeds in early-post emergence applications. For best results, the soil should be moist at the time of application.

  5. Weed Stage: Most effective when applied before target sedges, annual grasses, and broad-leaved weeds emerge or at the earliest visible stage.

  6. Re-Entry Interval (REI): Do not enter the treated area for at least 12 hours after application or until the spray has fully dried.

  7. Notes: Avoid application on sandy or gravelly soils with low organic matter unless specified on the label, as this may increase the risk of crop injury or leaching. Do not apply to crops other than those listed on the label (Maize, Tomatoes, Potatoes, Roses).
